Fresh water crocodiles are about to extinct from Bangladesh

Fresh water crocodiles are now almost extinct from the country. Recently, a rumour about the capture of an apparent fresh water crocodile startled the zoologists. On November 28, local fishermen in Barisal’s Gobindopur managed to net a crocodile. But they killed the reptile only because of ignorance.

Hearing the news of the find, zoologists anticipated that they will preserve the carcass of the crocodile, as they thought it to be a fresh water type. Later the zoologists confirmed it as a salt water crocodile after it was taken to the local Forest Department office.

Zoologists observe that the Forest Department should take effective measures in preserving the existing salt water crocodiles and Gharials in the country, so that they do not follow the fate of fresh water crocodiles here.
